Back up to Google Drive

Connect your Drive, choose where each server's backups go, and what happens when you restore from it.

A backup stored on the same computer as the server goes down with it when the disk dies. One in your own Google Drive doesn't, and it also survives a reinstall or a new PC.

Connect Google Drive

  1. Open the Backups page.
  2. On the Google Drive card, press Connect Google Drive.
  3. Finish signing in in your browser. The button says Waiting for Google… until you do.

Once it's connected, the card shows the account you used and how many backups are in your Drive.

Mineshire keeps its files in a folder of its own and can only see what it put there. Your other files stay out of reach.

Choose where backups go

After you connect, every server gets a small menu on the Backups page with three choices:

  • This computer keeps backups here only. This is how it works until you change it.
  • Computer and Google Drive keeps a copy here and copies it to Drive.
  • Google Drive only keeps backups in Drive and nowhere else.

The choice belongs to one server, so a small test server can stay local while your main world goes to Drive.

Send an old backup

Backups you made before connecting stay only on your computer until you copy them. On any of them, the cloud icon with the tooltip Copy to Google Drive sends it up. While it moves, the row shows Copying to Google Drive and the top of the page shows a progress bar.

Free up space on your computer

When a backup is in both places, a second icon appears with the tooltip Remove from this computer, keep in Google Drive. Use it on old backups to get the disk space back while the copy in Drive stays.

The badge on each row tells you where a backup lives: Computer, Computer + Drive or Drive.

Restore from Drive

Press Restore like you would for any backup. If the backup is only in Drive, Mineshire downloads it first and then puts it back on the server. The server has to be stopped, as always. The same works on another computer: install Mineshire there, connect the same Google account and your backups show up.

Deleting a backup that exists in both places removes both copies, and the confirmation says so. There's no undo.

Disconnect

Press Disconnect on the Drive card. Mineshire stops copying new backups, and what's already in your Drive stays there. Connecting again later is always possible.
