Back up on a schedule

Why a backup plan skips servers, and what Mineshire needs to run it.

You set up a plan for Tuesday night, look on Wednesday, and there's no new backup. Nothing is broken. A plan needs two things before it does anything.

Add a plan

On the Backups page, add a plan that runs at the time and on the days you pick.

First: the server must be stopped

A backup copies the server's files, and files that are being written can end up half saved. If the server is still running when the plan's time comes, the plan skips it.

Pick a time when nobody plays and the server is off, or stop the server yourself before then.

Second: Mineshire must be open

Plans run inside Mineshire, so they only run while it's open. Open can mean hidden in the tray, which is where it goes when you close the window. It can't mean switched off. If your computer was asleep or off at that time, or you quit Mineshire from the tray, no backup happened.

To stop worrying about it, turn on Start Mineshire when I sign in in Settings. See What happens when you close Mineshire.

A simple routine

Choose a time when the server is normally off, add a plan for it, and let Mineshire start with your computer. Then glance at the Backups page once a week to make sure the newest backup is there.
