Share a server with a friend
Let someone you trust help run your server from their own Mineshire, and choose exactly what they can do.
Playing on your server and sharing it aren't the same. A share hands a friend a control panel for the server inside their own Mineshire. If you're away from the keyboard, they can restart it, read the console or kick someone who's causing trouble.
Two things to know first. Both of you need to be signed in, and sharing needs the internet. And the server still runs on your computer, so your Mineshire has to be open for your friend to manage it. They never get the server's folder or your tunnel address.
Add the friend first
The Friends card on the right is where it starts. Type a username into it and press Send. Your friend gets a request, and once they press Accept they appear in your list.
Share the server
Open the menu of the server on the Servers page and choose Share with friend. A dialog asks three things:
- Who is the friend you're sharing with.
- What they can do is a role, or your own mix of permissions (more on that below).
- For how long runs from 1 hour up to 1 month, or Until I stop it if you don't want an end date. It starts on 1 week.
Press Share when you're happy with it.
The roles
- Viewer can look at the server and change nothing.
- Moderator watches the console and looks after players: kick, ban and the whitelist.
- Manager runs the server day to day. They can start, stop and restart it, make operators, change properties and options, manage plugins and mods, make backups and switch the world. No files and no commands.
- Full control is everything, including files and console commands.
Pick a role to start from, then open a group such as Console, Players or Files to switch single items on or off. The role label changes to Custom when your mix doesn't match one. Each item has a one-line note about what it does.
Turning on something that changes a group also turns on the "see" item of that group, and turning "see" off turns the rest of the group off.
What your friend does
The share appears under Shared with you on their Servers page. They press Accept or Decline, and after accepting, Open takes them to a panel that shows only what you allowed. The Your access card in that panel lists each item as allowed or not.
Change it or stop it
You see every share you've made under You share on the Servers page, with a Manage button. The same window opens from the server's menu.
- Change what they can do lets you edit the permissions, then Save access.
- Stop ends the share right away.
- Clear ended removes shares that are finished from the list.
Every share also keeps a written record of what your friend did, shown right under their name. A share that has reached its end date reads Expired.
