New world, Duplicate, Export and Repair
Four buttons that sound alike and do very different things. One of them deletes your world.
Open a server's Options tab and you'll see a few buttons that all sound like they copy or reset something. One of them deletes your world. The rest are safe.
| Button | What it does | Safe? |
|---|---|---|
| New world | Builds a fresh world and throws the current one away | No, it deletes |
| Duplicate | Copies the server into a second one | Yes |
| Export as zip | Packs the server folder into one file | Yes |
| Repair | Downloads the server software again | Yes |
New world
The dialog says it straight: the current world is deleted, except its data packs, and the next start builds the new one. You pick a land type and a seed. Leave the seed empty for a random one, or type your own, because the same seed always builds the same land.
Duplicate
Duplicate copies the world, settings and plugins into a new server with its own port. The original stays untouched, which makes it the right tool for trying something risky, like a new plugin set or a version upgrade.
Stop the server first so its files get copied in one piece.
Export as zip
Export packs the whole server folder into a single zip, saved wherever you choose, and a percentage shows while it works. Nothing is changed or removed. To move a server to another computer, import the zip over there. Like Duplicate, export needs the server stopped.
Repair
Repair downloads the server software files again and puts them back. Your world, settings, plugins and mods stay as they are. It's meant for damaged or missing program files, not for a broken world.
The Back up first switch in the dialog saves a full copy, so you can roll back if something goes wrong. Some software is built on your computer and takes several minutes, with the server stopped meanwhile.
Which one do I want?
- A different world: New world, and remember it deletes.
- To experiment without risk: Duplicate.
- A copy to keep or move: Export as zip.
- A server that won't start because of its files: Repair.
