Install Mineshire
Get Mineshire for Windows, macOS or Linux and open it for the first time.
Mineshire is free, and you only need one file for your system. Skip installing Java. Mineshire grabs it the moment a server needs it.
Get the file
Head to the Downloads page and pick your system. The download starts on its own, and the page tells you what to do with it.
Open it
| System | The file | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | Mineshire-setup.exe | Run the installer. |
| macOS | Mineshire-macos.dmg | Open the disk image and drag Mineshire into Applications. |
| Linux | Mineshire-linux.AppImage | Make it executable, then double-click. |
About Java
You never install it yourself. Mineshire downloads a Temurin build from Adoptium for whichever Java your Minecraft version needs, and servers that need the same version share one copy. So there's nothing to keep up to date, and nothing to clean up later.
Then what?
Open Mineshire and press Create server. The next article goes through it: Create your first server.
Updates later on happen inside the app, and Mineshire checks each one against its own signature before installing it. More in Update Mineshire.
